白色疏松粉末，白度高、容重低、在常溫下穩(wěn)定，受熱分解脫水生成氧化鋁。
氫氧化鋁微粉與其他很多阻燃填料不同，它熱解時(shí)不產(chǎn)生有毒和有腐蝕性的氣體，而且熱解時(shí)吸收熱和放出水蒸汽，使制品具有阻燃自熄性能，因而在塑料、橡膠等高級(jí)材料中添加該產(chǎn)品，不僅使制品具有阻燃消煙效果，而且抗漏電、耐電弧、耐磨性能增強(qiáng)。
